THE FEASIBILITY STUDY

A feasibility study is usually required on large complex projects. The study evaluates many aspects of the project, including the availability of time and capacity, financial and other resources as well as technical details to help make the decision on proceeding with the project.

The purpose of feasibility studies is to:

  • Establish whether the project is viable.
  • Help identify feasible options.
  • Assist in the development of other project documentation such as the business case, project execution plan and strategic brief.

DIFFERENT ASPECTS OF THE FEASIBILTY STUDY

On large or complex projects, there may be a number of different feasibility studies required:

  • Will full planning permission be required, or can the work be completed under permitted development.
  • The likelihood that an environmental impact assessment will be required.
  • Analysis of the budget relative to client
  • Assessment of any site information provided by the client.
  • Procurement options.
  • Site appraisals, including geotechnical studies, assessment of any contamination, availability of services, uses of adjoining land, easements and restrictive covenants, environmental impact and so on.
  • Considering different solutions to accessing potential sites.
